The short answer
AI agent continuity is the property that a job survives a change of AI, app, session, or day: the goal, the state of the work, the decisions, and the record of what was already done stay intact and checkable, so whoever or whatever picks the job up continues it instead of restarting it. Continuity is not a longer chat or a bigger context window. It is the work keeping its identity while the tools around it change.
Your AI is replaceable. Models improve, prices move, limits hit mid-job. The question continuity answers is whether the work notices. If switching AIs costs you the job's history, you never had continuity; you had a session.
The three things that have to travel
State: where the job stands
The goal, what is done, what is next, and every decision with its reason. State is what a fresh AI needs in the first minute, and it is the first thing a chat transcript buries. Written as a record, it is read in seconds and stays decided.
Memory: the facts the work depends on
Facts bound to the work itself, not to one app's private store: each remembered fact carries where it came from, so the next AI recalls the fact and its source together. In Zambo that is the memory tools at work: facts bind to the work connection, each fact carries its source agent and a verifiable receipt, and recall matches on the fact, whichever AI asks. The mechanics are walked through in how shared memory across AIs actually works.
Evidence: proof of the part already done
A verifiable receipt per finished step, saved when the step ran, under AER-1, an open IETF Internet-Draft (draft-zambo-aer1-23). Evidence is what lets the next AI, or the client, trust the state instead of re-doing the work to be sure. Without it, continuity is just a confident summary crossing a border.
Why sessions break continuity by default
- Each AI keeps its own memory. Claude's memory, ChatGPT's memory, and Gemini's context are separate stores; none reads another's, so the job's facts scatter across apps that cannot see each other.
- Sessions end. A closed tab, a new day, a weekly limit: the container the work lived in goes away, and anything stored only inside it goes with it.
- Transcripts are narration. Pasting a chat into the next AI moves the words of the conversation. It does not move verified state, and it carries nothing the receiver can check.
- Summaries decay. Each retelling drops a decision or softens a failure. Three switches in, the job being continued is a rumor about the job that started.
What a continuity layer is
A continuity layer is the part of the stack that holds the job's state, memory, and record outside any single app. The apps become interchangeable drivers; the layer is where the work actually lives. Whoever picks the job up, a different AI, a different session, a person, reads the same record and adds to the same record.
That is the layer Zambo is built to be: 153 tools behind one MCP endpoint every major AI can connect to, memory that binds facts to the work instead of to one app, handovers that carry jobs across the border as checkable records, and a today view where the whole day's work across AIs is visible in one place. The how-to for the best-known border is the cross-AI continuity guide; the mechanism for crossing it mid-job is the AI handover.
The cost shape matches the rest of the record-keeping: the layer runs on the free tier on a normal day, checking any record is free for anyone, a $0.99 Day Pass covers a heavy day of the full machine, and the $29 Pass ($19 for $ZAMBO holders, $290 for the year) fits work that crosses borders daily.
Questions, answered
What is AI agent continuity?
AI agent continuity is the property that a job survives a change of AI, app, session, or day: the goal, the state of the work, the decisions, and the record of what was already done stay intact and checkable, so whoever or whatever picks the job up continues it instead of restarting it. Continuity is not a longer chat or a bigger context window. It is the work keeping its identity while the tools around it change.
What is a continuity layer for AI agents?
A continuity layer is the part of the stack that holds a job's state, memory, and record outside any single AI app, so the work does not live and die inside one session. Apps and models come and go; the layer keeps the goal, the decisions, the remembered facts, and the per-step receipts in one place that any AI can read from and add to. Zambo is built as that layer: continuity that carries work across AIs, with a verifiable receipt for every job, is its whole job.
How is AI agent continuity different from AI memory?
Memory is one ingredient of continuity: the facts that carry forward. Continuity is the whole property: the job's goal and state, the decisions with their reasons, the remembered facts, and the evidence for what was already done, all surviving a switch together. An AI can have excellent memory inside its own app and still give you zero continuity, because the memory stays locked in that app when you move. Continuity is measured at the border between tools, not inside one tool.
How do I keep a job continuous across Claude and ChatGPT?
Keep the job's record outside both apps. Run the work through one connection both AIs can use, so the receipts, the remembered facts, and the job state live in the same place whichever AI is driving. At the switch, hand over the record: the wrap-up line ends the session with the goal, what is done, what is next, and every decision, receipts attached, as a continue link. The other AI opens the link and continues the same job. Pasting a transcript moves the words; handing over the record moves the job.
What breaks AI agent continuity?
Four things: work that lives only inside one app's chat, so it dies when the session ends or the limit hits; summaries written from memory instead of from the record, which drop decisions and soften failures; facts remembered in one AI's private memory store, unreachable from the next; and records nobody can check, so the next AI cannot tell what was really done from what was merely said. Every one of them is a storage choice, not a model limit: put the record outside the app, at run time, and continuity stops depending on any single AI.
