The short answer
The limit stops the session. It only stops the work if the session is the work's only home. If the job ran through the Zambo endpoint at https://zambo.dev/mcp, every step was saved outside Claude the moment it ran, each with a verifiable receipt. Package the session with the handover tool and you get one link holding the goal, the steps, their saved results, and the next steps. Open it in another AI, Claude's limit no longer matters: the new AI reads the record, checks the receipts it will build on, accepts the handover, and continues the same job. Zambo is the verifiable work layer for AI, and this is the moment that design is for.
Scope, stated once and applied everywhere on this page: an agent receipt is a record of one ai agent tool call that anyone can check: it keeps the exact saved bytes and their sha-256 digest, and it proves the result was not changed since it was saved, not that it was right. A receipt cannot be created after the fact for work nobody recorded.
The manual workarounds, honestly
Wait for the reset. It works, and sometimes it is even the right call for a short job near the end of the window. The cost is the delay itself, plus the context decay: when the session resumes hours later, the first exchanges go to reloading where things stood.
The summary transplant. If the session still answers, ask it to summarize the job, then paste the summary into another AI and re-brief from there. This is the move everyone makes, and its failure mode is quiet: the summary is a retelling written by the AI whose work it describes. It rounds, it drops the step that failed, and the new AI cannot recheck any of it. For a short task the loss is small. For a long one, you restart from a story about the work instead of the work.
Copy the whole thread. Faithful, and unusable past a certain size: the receiving AI gets raw transcript, not state. It still has to guess which parts were decisions, which were drafts, and what the tool calls actually returned.
None of these are scams; they are what you do when the record and the conversation are the same object. The fix is to separate them before the limit hits.
The receipt-backed path, step by step
- The work runs recorded. With Zambo added to Claude, calls run through https://zambo.dev/mcp and each step is saved outside the session with its receipt. You get 20 free calls per day; the recording habit costs nothing to start.
- The limit hits. Nothing is lost. The session locks, but the job's state is the record, and the record is not in the session. Open the handover tool and package the session: goal, steps, saved results, receipts, next steps, one link.
- The other AI opens the record, not a retelling. In ChatGPT, or any AI with Zambo added, open the handover link. It reads each step as recorded and can verify any receipt at the public endpoint before building on it: zambo.dev/verify.
- It accepts and continues. The receiving AI accepts the handover, and its own work chains onto the same trail. When Claude's limit resets, Claude can rejoin by reading the same record, and the seam between the two AIs stays visible to anyone who reads the job later.
The general version of this move, switching for any reason and not just a limit, is switching AIs mid-task. The concrete Claude to ChatGPT walk-through is handing work from Claude to ChatGPT, and the agent-to-agent version, where the receiver is itself an agent that signs for the package, is agent-to-agent handover.
If this job was not recorded
Then this page cannot hand you back a record that does not exist, and any tool that promises otherwise is inventing it. Salvage what the session produced: download the files, save the outputs, and ask the session for its best summary while you still can. Then make the salvage the last unrecorded work you ever do: start the continuation in the new AI with Zambo added first, so the second half of the job is recorded from its first call. One limit teaches the lesson; the setup makes sure it only teaches it once.
Why the record checks out
The receipts on the steps follow AER-1, the agent execution receipt format published as an IETF Internet-Draft, currently draft-zambo-aer1-26. The format is public and its conformance corpus is public too: 126 vectors and 129 checks that any implementation can run, on the corpus checks page. That matters at exactly the moment of this page: a receiving AI does not have to take Zambo's word that a receipt is valid, because the check is a recomputation anyone can perform.
Questions, answered
What happens to my work when Claude hits its usage limit?
The conversation stops answering until the limit resets, but the thread itself usually survives. What does not survive the move to another AI is the working state: the tool results, the intermediate steps, the files as they stood halfway through. If the job ran through the Zambo endpoint, that state was never only in the session: each step was recorded outside it with a verifiable receipt, so the work is intact and readable even while Claude is locked.
Can I move a half-finished task from Claude to ChatGPT?
Yes, if the task was recorded. Package the session with the handover tool: the goal, the steps taken, the saved result and receipt for each step, and the next steps, at one link. Open that link in ChatGPT with Zambo added, and it reads the recorded steps, checks the receipts behind the ones it will build on, accepts the handover, and continues from the recorded state. The concrete walk-through is the Claude to ChatGPT handover page on this hub.
Do I have to wait for the limit to reset?
Only if the work lives nowhere else. Waiting is the default because the session is the only copy of the job for most people. When the steps are recorded on an endpoint outside the app, the limit becomes a scheduling detail for one AI, not a stop on the job: a second AI continues the same work now, and Claude can rejoin later by reading the same record.
My work was not recorded. Can I still save it?
Partly, and honestly: a receipt cannot be created after the fact for a step nobody recorded. What you can still do is salvage: while you have any access left, save the outputs and files the session produced and ask for a summary of what was done. Then start the continuation in the new AI with Zambo added first, so the second half of the job is recorded from its first call and the next limit costs you nothing.
What does it cost to continue a task in another AI?
The handover tool is free, and continuing costs the same as doing the job in one AI. Every call runs on the same terms: 20 free calls per day, then a $0.99 Day Pass for 24 hours of higher limits, or the Zambo Pass at $29 for 30 days, one payment, $290 for 365 days, and $19 for 30 days for $ZAMBO holders. People pay by card through PayPal; agents pay in USDC on Base through x402.
